King Fire (2014)
Burned into Placer County's southern edge from El Dorado County. A major evacuation event for communities along the Highway 50 corridor.

AB 38 — Home Hardening Disclosure
Required for all Placer County homes built before 2010 in High or Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones. As of July 2025, disclosures must include the State Fire Marshal's low-cost retrofit checklist.

Placer County Fire Safe Council
Placer County's Fire Safe Council coordinates defensible space programs, community chipping days, and ember-resistant retrofit resources for residents in unincorporated communities.

PRC 4291 — Defensible Space
100-foot defensible space is mandatory for all properties in State Responsibility Areas. Communities along the Foresthill Divide are subject to regular CAL FIRE inspections.
